These eyes...

"These Eyes" by Karla Rosendall

"If I have faltered more or less
In my great task of happiness;
If I have moved among my race
And shown no glorious morning face;
If beams from happy human eyes
Have moved me not; if morning skies,
Books, and my food, and summer rain
Knocked on my sullen heart in vain:---
Lord, thy most pointed pleasure take
And stab my spirit broad awake;
Or, Lord, if too obdurate I,
Choose thou, before that spirit die,
A piercing pain, a killing sin,
And to my dead heart run them in!

Robert Louis Stevenson 1850-1894 - The Clestial Surgeon

Losing My Youth

"Losing My Youth" by Karla Rosendall

So much of adolescence is an ill-defined dying.
An intolerable waiting.
A longing for another place and time.
Another condition.
-Theodore Roethke, "I'm Here"

And then when you finally get to that other place and time, you want to be back in your youth. Oh, us humans, always going for the greener grass. Never content where we are! Then one day, when your old and gray, and you have reached that threshold, you long for death because living becomes an unbearable suffering of losses.

I Elizabeth

Do not tell secrets to those whose faith and
silence you have not already tested.
To Erik, King of Sweden, in 1561.
Chamberlin, The Sayings of Queen Elizabeth (1923), ch. 11.

I am reading the book "I, Elizabeth" by Rosalind Miles. I am a sucker for period pieces. I know...cheesy. But so far it's a really good book. That is what inspired this piece. I am off for two days and I figured I would bust out the artsy stuff and give it a whirl. I haven't made anything in quite some time.

Revisiting Old Photos

Just looking through some old photos and taking them into Lightroom to see if they are worth keeping.

Pop Culture Play

Just playing around with a little pop culture imagery. I was going to do a drawing, but I guess I packed up all my pencils and pens. So I created these just using marker, hence the loose style.

These are 2.5" x 3.5" on bristol board. Commonly known as ATC's.

Really great people

I'm contemplating incorporating the following quote as a gift for someone who has inspired me. It's a shame there aren't more people like this in the world. In fact I could stand to take this advise more often. It's easy to forget to lift people up and take them with you on your journey through life.

"Really great people make you feel that you, too, can become great." -Mark Twain

Kelly had the quote on her blog and it really struck a cord with me. Instantly a drawing came to mind. We'll see.

It's Been Awhile...

"It's Been Awhile"

Here is my latest pen/marker drawing. Since I haven't drawn anything in quite some time I thought this was fitting...:-)

StReet ArT

These two paintings are on the electrical cover of a light pole.

Not sure who GR8 is, I tried to google him/her but I didn't come up with anything. They have these posters plastered everywhere downtown. I thought they were pretty cool. I always thought it would be neat to make up a sticker to "graffiti" up poles and such.

Check out my new blog!

Check out my new blog. It's a little less arty and a lot more raw! I will still be posting anything artistic and crafty or deep and meaningful here, so don't despair. But if your interested in my mundane life, take a peek.
